Overview
The Wind-Speed Wireless Broadband Transmission System is a compact, lightweight OFDM/MIMO radio module designed for integration into drones, UGVs, industrial robots, and automation equipment. Despite its diminutive size — just 110.5 x 70 x 28.5 mm and 236 g — it delivers full-duplex transparent IP throughput of up to 30 Mbps with a system latency of only 50 ms over NLOS ranges of 300–900 m and line-of-sight distances of 2–18 km.
The Wind-Speed operates on the 800 MHz, 1.4 GHz, and 2.4 GHz bands, selectable via front-panel LCD, making it adaptable to regional frequency regulations and deployment environments. It is a pure hardware radio — connect power and Ethernet and the link establishes automatically with no software configuration. The system includes dual external antennas (1T2R) for receive diversity and supports AES-256 encryption configurable through the LCD.
Key Features
- Ultra-compact form factor: 110.5 x 70 x 28.5 mm at 236 g — small enough for gimbals, drone avionics bays, and robotic arms.
- Tri-band frequency selection: 800 MHz, 1.4 GHz, and 2.4 GHz bands LCD-selectable, with channel bandwidth from 1.4 to 20 MHz.
- Full IP transparent transport: Dual RJ45 Ethernet ports with locking connectors, carrying standard TCP/IP traffic with no proprietary framing.
- Industrial I/O: CAN bus (1 Mbps), RS-485 (115200 bps), and TTL level interface for sensor data, actuator control, and PTZ telemetry — all through the same radio link.
- Low power consumption: Just 5 W typical — ideal for battery-powered platforms.
- AES-256 encryption: Hardware-accelerated 256-bit encryption with LCD key management.
- Receive diversity: 1T2R antenna configuration improves link stability under multipath and mobile conditions.
- Flexible networking: Supports point-to-point, point-to-multipoint (up to 16 nodes), mesh, and relay deployments.
Technical Highlights
The Wind-Speed system integrates OFDM with 1T2R MIMO receive diversity to maximize link robustness in the small form factor. OFDM's multi-carrier architecture handles multipath fading inherently — when frequency-selective fading attenuates a subcarrier, forward error correction recovers the lost data from the other subcarriers — while the dual receive antennas provide spatial diversity that significantly improves the link budget without increasing transmit power. With adaptive modulation (BPSK, QPSK, 16QAM, 64QAM) the system automatically selects the best rate for current channel conditions.
Applications
The Wind-Speed system is purpose-built for industrial robots, unmanned aerial vehicles, and mobile robotic platforms that need bidirectional video, telemetry, and control over a single compact radio link. It is widely used in industrial automation — transmitting HD video back from a robotic arm's onboard camera while simultaneously carrying CAN bus control commands and status telemetry — as well as drone inspection, agricultural robotics, and autonomous ground vehicles operating in GPS-challenged environments where NLOS connectivity is essential.
Why Choose This System
The Wind-Speed delivers an unmatched size-to-performance ratio for embedded wireless broadband. At 236 g with 5 W power draw, it fits where bulkier radios cannot, yet still provides 30 Mbps at 50 ms latency over kilometers. The tri-band support, AES-256 security, and flexible industrial I/O make it a single-box solution for bidirectional data, video, and control on the smallest robotic and drone platforms.
